Craig Whittet: Traditional Manufacturing Methods

In todays world, it's a lot harder to find products manufactured in traditional ways and when you do these typically come with a steep price. It's easy to understand how lots of older industries struggle to adapt to modernisation. Take the fashion industry as an example, big retailers are producing more for less which all contributes to 'fast fashion'. These newer manufacturing methods and materials are a lot more harmful to the planet in the long run, as more and more items of clothing are being worn once and then thrown out. Older companies with traditional processes are not capable of producing a fresh new line of clothing every month. There are also a lot of challenges that come with traditional manufacturing, it can often be a very physical job that is not highly paid. In my opinion people involved in manufacturing hand made goods or training as apprentices should be paid more. This would encourage younger generations to continue older processes, producing higher quality goods that will last significantly longer than mass produced items.
